At Shinkoyasu station I met a Filipino couple in their 60s and their three children. Nissan Engine Assembly Plant was about a twenty minutes’ walk from the station.
On the way, I told them that the area is one of the leading industrial zones in Japan. They were so surprised at how neat and clean everything was. We were a little early reaching the guest hall, which was the head office until 1968.
There was a robot at the guest hall, which gave a drawing demonstration. The daughter of the family was the first to guess what the robot was drawing. The tour of the engine assembly plant followed. I thought it a pity that the whole process of car production could not be seen as the engine assembly plant is all that now remains. Still, the visitors watched the workings of the factory robots with interest. After the tour, we had a pleasant conversation over lunch in Shinkoyasu.
